Variety is the Spice of Life

While growing up, we were told to drink eight glasses of water per day and to stand up straight. Katy Bowman, M.S., a bio-mechanist and author, suggests that you add one more thing to the list: “movement.” The amount of time that we spend sitting increases each year. In fact, some have suggested that “sitting is the new smoking.”

Adding more movement to your day is simple. Instead a sitting at your desk all day, try standing or taking a walk while on the phone. Move your printer to the other side of the room giving you another reason to move. Take short stretching breaks between tasks. Do find creative ways to add more movement to your daily routine. Remember that science has even documented how increased productivity results from taking “movement breaks.”
